Piave

12 “ x 12” Oil, Craypas, Linen and Plaster on Masonite

Created in 2024 and inspired by the waters of the Piave River in the Provence of Belluno. In approaching this piece, the choice of a restrained color palette in the central square draws the viewer into a contemplation of subtle variations and interplay of light and shadow. There's a certain depth achieved through the layering technique that emits a soft glow, capturing the essence of tranquility. The rough, almost organic edge of the central square suggests a deliberate departure from the formality of geometric perfection, which evokes a sense of rawness and authenticity. A smaller version of Piave was commissioned by Ceramicist Elizabeth Mac Donald.
