Homage a Caravaggio Due
24 “ x 24” Oil, Craypas, Linen and Plaster on Masonite
Created in 2024 and inspired by the life and art of Caravaggio. Turbulence and fray. The color palette is primarily earthy tones honoring the richly darkened edges of a Caravaggio tableaux. Deeper browns and rust hues are interupted by streaks and patches of a muted blue-green providing meteoric contrast to the brown, rust and gold. Areas of thick impasto paint create dimensional ridges and peaks. Other sections are more thinly layered, allowing the base linen texture to materialize. Overall, the piece has a weathered, aged aesthetic - as if it's an artifact or remnant that has gone through a process of accretion, erosion, and excavation over time, a lost fragment in salutation to the brilliance of Caravaggio.
