Celeste
12 “ x 12” Oil, Craypas, Linen and Plaster on Masonite
Created in 2024, Celeste translates to heavenly and color of the sky in Italian. The central rectangular form is textural, appearing frayed or shredded along its edges. This creates a sense of motion and energy within the static shape. The colors blend together in an almost hazy, atmospheric way - the yellow, cream and blues seem to subtly shift and merge. The ethereal blending of colors and the rough, deconstructed texture lend the piece an enigmatic, dreamlike feel. It evokes a sense of something dissolving, disintegrating, or transforming from one state into another. The celestial blue backdrop both contrasts with and highlights the central amorphous shape. It provides a grounding element, a simplified canvas that allows the nuanced textures and colors to become a heavenly work in the celestial plane.
